Default [FIXED] Motor issues, need some input...

I have a Maytag model MAH5500BWW which seemed to not be going thru the spin cycle. Turned out that the motor control board had burned out. Not a big surprize after researching here on the internet but a surprize to me since I've always had good experiences with Maytag products.

Anyway I ended up ordering the motor conversion kit #12002039 to replace the burned controller and the motor. Today I installed it, got the washer all back together and threw in a small load to test her out. Water started to fill, door locked, but when the motor went to spin the drum it made some bad noises and stopped almost as on overload. I ended up taking the motor out and doing some testing with the limited manuals for Maytag washers I could find free on the net.
When I put the main control board in test mode with the control harness to the motor control board disconnected, the motor spins quitely at about 50rpm as it should. If you apply a load to the shaft (by grabbing it) the controller ups the torque until the rpm is regained.
With the main control board harness connected to the motor control board the motor moves in a jerky motion unless it is spinning at a high rate of speed but even then you can feel some roughness. I put a meter on the red wire (torque control) from the main control board and measured the voltage as the motor would be commanded to turn at the beginning of a wash cycle. The voltage was very erratic and seemed to match the roughness (jerkyness) of the motors motion at slow speed.
Could this be a bad main control board? I wanted to run this by someone who may have seen this failure before throwing more money at it.

Thanks!

Yes, it sounds like the main control board in the console.

How old is your washer?

Also please post the serial# as they make 2 different control boards for this model.

Jake,
Believe it or not, the motor seems to be working properly now! I was running the motor out of the machine last night and noticed if I was to put a load on the shaft that there would be a reduction in the irratic jerky rotation of the motor. So I put a towel around the end of the shaft and really tried to hold her back, the result was a pretty smooth output from the motor. So I decided for the 5 min it takes to re-install I'd give her another try. She seems to be running fine now. No idea why upon initial install it wouldn't spin. Almost seems like the motor had a rough spot and needed to break in.

Your Neptune Motor is/was warranted for 10 years so you could have gotten a free replacement but you have to pay labor. Not sure if that would be more/less than the cost of the motor.

I did read somewhere, on here I believe, that you could get them(Maytag) to replace the motor and let you install it. Do a search here for that thread and it will give you more info.

Go to the Maytag washer forum-page 6 and you will see the thread that says "Don't pay for the Neptune Motor Conversion Kit". It might still help you??
