Default Jenn Air JCD2389GT- Freezer not cold enough & ice maker issues

This morning my wife informed me that the ice maker was not working. I noticed that the food was borderline frozen.

I pulled the ice maker out, took it apart and inspected everything. reinstalled and the motor cycles, water fills, still no dump.

I think the problem with the ice may be the thermostat not letting the ice machine cycle because it is not cold enough.

Any suggestions?

Dave

Hi Dave,

If the ice maker can't get cold enough, it wont make ice, so since you said your food in the freezer was borderline frozen, that makes me think you have a cooling problem.

Take some food out of your freezer, then put your hand in the freezer and feel your back panel inside your freezer, do you feel frost build-up on it?

Jake

Jake,

I think you are correct. The back of the freezer does not have frost. I have unplugged the unit and will reconnect in the morning. If it is a cooling problem as we suspect, what should I be looking for?

First frost build-up on that inside freezer back panel, better yet would be to take that inside freezer back panel off and look at your evaporator coils for frost build-up. Normal frost pattern is a thin layer on all the coils, not thick build-up.

In the morning pull your refrigerator out from the wall, then take off your lower back access panel#21 here:

And check your defrost pan#16 to see how much water is in it.

Then plug your refrigerator in, and make sure your compressor#1 and condenser fan#15 next to the compressor is turning.

Let us know.

Jake
