Default Neptune Mod #MAH4000AWQ

My washer makes a growling noise during agitation and spin cycles. What is the cause and fix and how difficult is the repair?

It could be a number of things, see if you can pinpoint exactly were the growling sound is coming from, I've even seen a bad belt do this sound.

Pull your washer away from the wall, take the back panel off and run it, and see if the noise is coming from the belt.

Here's the belt for your washer in case you need to order it:
Manufacturer's Number: 12001788

I took off the belt and ran the machine... Sound is coming from the motor. I assume I'll need to replace the motor? If so, how difficult is it? Will I be able to remove it from the back access panel or will I have to take the whole machine apart to get it out and put the new one on?

Whats the serial# of your washer? This model has two different ones it uses depending on your serial#.

You have a 10 year warranty on that motor/motor conversion kit. These motors are about $120-$200.
Read post#1 here:

Its fairly easy to change the motor.

Here's the online repair manual for your model that will show you how:
www.applianceblog.com/manuals/MaytagNeptunenew.pdf
Its on pages 8-1 & 8-2 you can print those pages out.
