Hello,
I've had this gas oven now about 18 years and the last few months have had some issues with the main oven section. I have two problems. 1. The broiler no longer works at all and does nothing when I try to turn it on. No glow, no gas feeding in, nothing. 2. Of more concern is the main oven is acting oddly. The igniter glows and I can eventually hear gas feeding in with a noisy hissing sound similar to an old style blow torch kind of noise. The hissing is followed in a moment or two by a muffled burst noise... kind of a "pooomp" sound for lack of better words. I hear this repeat after a while intermittently if I let the oven stay on. Frankly I have not been using the oven lately since I don't know if it is safe or not. I was told by one person that it's simply a matter of carbon build up and it needs to be cleaned, while another person thought the igniter needed replacing and that would get rid if the odd noises. Whether these two suggestions are accurate or not I have no idea. Our gas oven is a Magic Chef model # 34MN-23CKX I tried to find our owner's manual but no luck, we've lost it somewhere over the years. I looked online at the Magic Chef site but it doesn't come up with any matches, too old of a model I guess. Any suggestions on how I should proceed from here? I'm on a budget and we're so far in the woods a service call will get expensive real fast so I am trying to put that off if I can. Thanks!! |

Hi,
Yes, its the oven bake igniter thats weak and not allowing the gas valve to open properly causing the odd sounds. Here's the one for your model you can order: Manufacturer part number 12400035 is RepairClinic item number 3377 12400035Looks like it uses the same igniter for the broil as well. You'll need to check for 120 volts at the broil igniter when you have broil on, if you get 120 volts and its not glowing orange, then its bad as well. Jake
