Default Tappan Upright Freezer

Jake I have a Tappan upright freezer that I just picked up and hooked it up Friday, I just checked it and the top coil at the back approximately 2 rows have an ice build up on them and the rest of them are clear, and the temp is 10 degree's and it is set on 7. The setting goes from Off to 7. My question is this normal or do you think there is a problem?

Hi Tag,

That usually indicates a sealed system/compressor problem, how old is this upright freezer? If you don't know post the serial# and I can tell you.

Frigidaire/Tappan/Kenmore 253 had a big issue with this back in the late 90's early 2000's.

Ok, then yes, it will likely need a new compressor.
