Default Maytag Atlantis Dryer Questions

I have an opportunity to replace an old Montgomery Ward dryer with a newer Maytag Atlantis dryer MDG6400AWW.

I've just recently replaced the Idler Pulley, the rollers and the belt so I feel like my old one is in decent shape but I still have a few questions.

First is age. I'm wondering if anyone knows how to decode the serial numbers to find out how old each machine is.
My Montgomery Ward is Model LNC8435A80 Serial # 88H060992
The Maytag Atlantis is MDG6400AWW Serial # 15660960CA

Next is...The Atlantis does not shut off when it's done. I'm waiting for more info on whether it's on both the timed setting or just the Auto dry setting. In the meantime, is it possible to determine if this is a simple repair, just a thermostat or timer that needs to be swapped out? Or is this a bigger issue?

Thanks for your help.

-Scott

Default Maytag Atlantis follow up

So to follow up with my privious post, the Maytag Atlantis does not shut off with either the timed dry or auto dry option. What parts am I going to have to replace in order to get this repaired?

Thanks

Hi Scott,

You would need a new timer.

Here's the one for your model:
Manufacturer part#33002855 is RepairClinic item#1002910

So even if I were to set it on the Auto Dry this would be the part I need to replace? There isn't some additional sensor that is malfunctioning? I don't understand how those autodry fuctions work as far as detecting when clothes are dry.

I read the some links that were posted about how the tempreture sensors work to turn on and off the heat. Is that the same system for auto dry?

Thanks.

...also...do you know how I can find out the year an appliance was built based on the model and serial number?

Yes to all your questions, but the only sensor is the moisture sensor, but even if that was bad it should still turn off on both auto and timed dry.

Your dryer is a 2003 model.

Default Changed my timer

I had the same problem. I replaced the timer but the same thing is happening. The timer does not turn and the dryer runs when I pull the know out in the off position. Is it a bad timer?

Yes, it sounds like you got a bad timer, where did you buy it from?
