Default [FIXED] Admiral LNC6760B71

Hello,

(Admiral LNC6760B71 has a loud grinding sound)

I am new to this forum, and I was searching for help online and I found this place. I am renting out my condo, and my renters complained about the washer making a loud noise on the spin cycle. Trying to be a good landlord, I went over to see if there was anything I could do to fix it. I've only been a landlord for 8 months so this is all new to me

I opened up the front panel, and I looked underneath. I gave the belt a pull, and all 3 wheels could spin. The only odd noise I would hear while spinning manually, was the pump?? in the back. It sounded like a grinding. It's the clear plastic part that has hoses connected to it for draining. I took off the belt, and started it up. The motor spun fine with no noise.

But when it's all hooked up, something is making a loud grinding sound. The basket does start to spin up. But I smell something, I think it's from the motor.

Am I looking at a transmission issue, or is it the plastic pump thing in the back? I saw a sticker underneath that had 2003 on it, so I assume that's how old it is. I've come here since I can't really afford to buy a new washing machine, and wanted to save any money I could before calling in a repair person. I hope this is something I can fix....

I have pics if needed.

-Jason

Hi,

Here's a help link to access the inner parts:
http://www.applianceaid.com/atlantis.html

I would first tilt your washer back then take the belt off your pulleys, then turn your water pump pulley first, to see if it makes the grinding sound, if so, then you found the problem.

When you turned the water pump pulley by hand did you feel it grinding? turning rough? It should turn smooth, no grinding at all.

Here's the water pump for your model, in case you need to order it:
Manufacturer's Number: 21002240

21002240

Hi Jake,

I did exactly that, took the belt off and turned each individually. When I turned the pump pulley, it did grind.

So if something was broken or stuck inside if this water pump, this would cause the motor to smell since its not spinning freely correct? I'm rally hoping it's just this!

By the way the part you linked doesn't have a picture on that site, but it looks like the part on this page here...

Yes, you can take the pump off and take the rubber hoses off of it and look inside it for foreign objects, if none, then its the pump bearing itself thats bad.

That pump I linked you to is the correct one for this model.

Part Number 35-6780 (AP4373022) replaces 21002240, 21001873, 21002219, 21002240, 21001873, 21002219.

It worked!

I did notice that the older part had the round metal plate that sat in between the nylon casing and the pulley on the bottom. This seemed to be rubbing on each other. Guess that's why it was discontinued with that metal.

Thanks for the info. My tenants were very impressed that I fixed it. I'm very glad I joined up to this site!
