Default Jenn-Air JCD2289 Ice Maker Electrical Issue

Last night smoke was coming from my ice maker unit and there was a distinct electronic "fire" smell. I disconnected the unit and after plugging it back in, the ice maker, water dispenser, and front panel lights do not work. The freezer and refrigerator both work just fine, I do not have any issues with not cooling or freezing. Without having taken this apart yet, what might I need to replace? The ice and water dispenser control board or the circuit board or both? If so, is access to each of these through the front panel where the water dispenser is or is it through the inside of the door (or elsewhere)? Is there anything else I need to look at that may need replacing?

Hi Richie,

There should be 3 more letters after the "9" at the end of your model#. Your model# tag is located inside the refrigerator section on the upper walls or ceiling.

Sounds like you have a short in your ice maker, that possibly blow out the dispenser board as well.

I can help you access the dispenser board once I have the full model#.

Also please post the serial# as well.

Jake

Jake,

The full model number should read JCD2289ATB. The serial number is 10301462UQ. Looking forward to your response!

Thanks,

Its very unusual for the ice maker to short out and start smoking, much less blow the dispenser board as well.

Here's the instructions to get access to the dispenser board:
http://www.applianceaid.com/image/el...-dispensor.JPG

Here's the cheapest ice maker assembly I found for your model:
Manufacturer's Number: D7824706Q

D7824706Q

Here's the dispenser board:
Manufacturer's Number: 61003425

61003425

If you purchase parts from our links here and you install them and it doesn't fix the problem, you have a 30 day full refund when you return them.

Jake,

I finally got around to tearing this apart to take a look and the dispenser board is definately blown. Could an ice jam cause this to fail as there was a lot of ice build up in the ice chute. If so, is it possible that the ice maker assembly is fine? I don't want to order more parts than needed.

Well from your first post you said smoke was coming from your ice maker, from that statement I'd order the ice maker assembly as well. If it turns out you don't need it, you always have 30 days to return it for a FULL refund.

Jake,

It took awhile but I finally replaced the icemaker and control board. After they were installed I waited until ice was made, the water would work from the front panel, but as soon as I tried to get some cubed ice, there was a electrical popping sound and the control board was fried again! The light worked OK, the water worked fine, but there is definately an issue when using the cubed/crushed ice dispenser.

The orginal icemaker appears to be fine as well and I probably did not need to replace it. Now what are my options?

Not to sure what to advise now, seems you have an electrical issue, probably best to have Jenn-Air come out to see whats going on.
