Default Maytag not cooling

I have a Maytag MSD2756GEW that is not cooling the fridge, the freezer is fine. This has happened before and it was the damper thermostat unit, this doesn't appear to be the current problem. Before I fixed it, with the hep of this site, a service tech filled it with coolant to try to "fix" it. I believe it was over filled and now the line that comes out of the compressor ices over. It ices all the way from the compressor to where the line enters the freezer side. Will over filling cause this line to ice over? Will this cause the fridge side not to cool properly?

Thanks,

Brook

Hi Brook,

Yes to both questions.

The service tech. will need to come back to remove the overfill.

Also did you take the lower back panel off inside your freezer and look at your evaporator coils to see if they were completely frosted up? Normal would be a thin layer of frost on all of them.

No, I haven't looked at the evap coils. What should I expect givin the current issue? Will they be total iced over? I will take a look.

I also noticed that when I open the freezer door that the air flow from the freezer to the fridge increases. Should that be the case?

Thanks,

Brook

I looked at the evap coil and it looked normal. I checked on it throughout the day and the frost did get a bit heavier, looking like the third picture, but never excessive. I also observed a defrost cycle and the coils became perfecty free of frost. The refridge side seems to working fine now but I'm thinking the problem will reoccure until the proper coolant charge is in the compressor. I called a service repair place and got a quote of 175-200$ to take out the coolant and put new in. Is that resonable?

Thanks.

Brook

NO, not at all, all the tech. has to do is recover the excess amount in a recovery bag, and use his manifold gauges to get the low side down to about 3 on the guage.

He doesn't need to completely take it all out and recharge it.
