Default Atlantis MAV6260AWW with video

Awesome forum here, wish I had come upon it sooner. $5 is but a small price to pay!

So here is my issue,
I was getting random loads in my washer that were sopping wet. It was a spastic thing, most of the time my clothes came out damp like there supposed to. Well it's gotten worse and started making a noises on the final 2 cycles and I needed to do something about it. The washer is 6 yrs old and I've got 5 kids so it gets lots of use. When I looked under the washer there was evidence of belt wear, lots of black powdery junk on the 3 pulleys. So I changed out the belt and crossed my fingers.
Bought the belt from the link on this site by the way
Now I'm getting a louder noise and I'm on my 1st load with the new belt, I took a video of whats going on. The load still hasn't finished, I came here and paid the 5 bucks right away cause I think I might be over my head on this one. Here is the video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DGUicLfxF8

Any help would be great.
Thanks Aaron

Default Load 1 was a success!

Ok with the exception of the afore mentioned noise, the load went through with out a hitch.
Hmmm... I'm thinking I'll keep washing. Laundry has piled to high to let a little noise slow me down now.
Still need to get it up 100% though

Hi Aaron,

I would first tilt your washer back then take the belt off your pulleys, then turn your water pump pulley first, to see if it makes the grinding sound, if so, then you found the problem.

When you turned the water pump pulley by hand did you feel it grinding? turning rough? It should turn smooth, no grinding at all.

Here's the water pump for your model, in case you need to order it:
Manufacturer's Number: 21002240

21002240

If thats ok, then turn your motor pulley and see if that grinds.

Here's the motor for your model you can order:
Manufacturer's Number: 21001950

21001950

If both check ok, then its likely your transmission assembly, it would cost more to fix than its worth.

Thumbs up Thanks Jake

I was leaning towards the Transmission as the fault, I've got a doctors style stethoscope that I use for automotive work and I used it on the washer. The sound does appear to be coming from the transmission. I don't feel like climbing under the washer again tonight so I'll remove the belt and check what your suggested in the AM.
Should they all spin freely by hand?
And do you know what puts tension on the belt?

Thanks
Aaron

The pivot spring puts tension on the motor mount clutch, so when the motor reverses for the spin & drain cycle, its turns the water pump pulley fast enough for a steady 60-90 sec. drain.

I have seen that motor pivot spring plate get dirty and dry and cause that pivot plate not to make a smooth pivot transaction when the motor reverses.

Try to lubricate that motor pivot plate when a compound like Sil-glyde lubricant, you can order or get at any appliance parts store in your area.

Default Tossed in another load

I've got a big load of towels in now, my 2nd load since the new belt. She's not putting up a fuss this time, running quiet just like it used to. Hmmm..... I don't like intermittent problems they usually cost more. I've got a home warranty that for $50 will come fix or replace the washer, if I get more noises out of the transmission I'm making the phone call.

Default Transmission is shot

Well there goes the washer.

So whats the best make and model out there by the way?
If money was no option...

What should I replace it with?
We're looking for a 5cu ft capacity or more.

Sorry to hear the transmission is shot.

Whirlpool Duet & Maytag Performance are very good front-load washers, but highest capacity I found for these was 4.4cu ft.

Default Thanks Jake

Would you recommend those same brands in the high efficiency top load models as well?

The repair guy from my home warranty told me to stay away from the new Maytag lines, and go with a Whirlpool because Whirlpool is now the parent company of Maytag. Also steer clear of the LG brand, but the local sales man said LG is awesome, just no one knows how to fix/work on them so thats why they get the bad rap.

My better half is really pushing to get the best of the best. We have a Whirlpool Cabrio top load HE on loan right now, she's been reading reviews about it all day and says it "ties the clothes together"

We're leaning towards a top load because the capacity is higher than the front loads.

So um...... maybe some more pointers or recommendations?
