Default [FIXED] Maytag MSD2456DEW - Freezer at -2oC Fridge at +11oC

Hello again,

After successful recovery from the dead (thanks to Jake) thread : [FIXED] Maytag MSD2456DEW died after "noisy fan"

my Maytag is acting up again. This time the food in the freezer is half frozen and temp inside the freezer is 'around -2oC which is not cold enough. This of course makes the fride semi-warm. Please advise how to attack this beast!

Forgot to add, that it seems the fan is always on and new ice is not producing.

Thanks,
Dom

Ok Dom,

Take everything out of your freezer, then take the shelves out, then remove the lower back access panel inside your freezer and look at your evaporator coils, do you notice heavy frost build-up on them? or none? or some? Normal would be a thin layer of frost on ALL the coils.

Ok, yes, your defrost system isn't working properly, and you already replaced the ADC board last time, it would be very rare for it to be bad again.

Lets check your defrost thermostat and defrost heater, you will need an ohm meter to test for continuity on the defrost thermostat(WHILE ITS FROSTY) first. It should read 0 ohms.

Here's the defrost heater/thermostat assembly for your model:
Manufacturer part#61006198 is RepairClinic item#1021857

Let me know what you find.

Hi Jake,

Just to be on the same page, the ACD board I reaplaced few months ago was one which I alraedy had in the basement, from previus troubleshooting and issues with this fridge - which were performed by my late father while I was not at home. Hence I cannot verify what was wrong then. The ACD board did correct the problem last time, however i'm not sure if it was a new part or a used one my dad got.
I'll check with the ohm meter tomorrow for continuity.

Any recommendations of brands/models for a top/bottom fridge/freezer which have better life span than this one?

Many thanks,
Dom

Ok, so that ADC board may not have been new then.

Whirlpool and Kenmore are very reliable brands.

Hello Jake,

I should test for continuity with the fridge unplugged - correct?

I disconnected the defrost thermostat/heater plug and connected the milti-meter to the plug, the following configurations yield these results:

white - white/black - 1
white - think black - 1
white/black - thick black - 0.02

Please advise where to go from here, thanks.

Yes, with the refrigerator unplugged.

Those readings show to be good, so now it would default back to your ADC board as being the problem.

Here's the ADC board for your model you can order:
Adaptive Defrost Control Board Part#61005988
61005988

Hello Jake,

Yesterday I've replaced the ADC board with a new one. Put everything back together, and now my freezer does cool down to -10oC (what should be the ideal freezer temp)?

My problem is not completly solved however, as the fridge is still warm at +15oC. I removedthe top panel on the fridge side and took out the styrophone top left which directsthe air flow from the freezer. I removed the little spring/latch door which controls the air flow and after some time I still can't feel any cold ait going from freezer to fridge side.
I remember in the past, when everything was working fine, even when i opened the fridge, there was cold air coming, sometimes with little steam top left corner of the fridge.
Please advise where to go from here to get the fridge cold again.

The whole unit seems to be ON all the time, I haven't noticed it ever shutting down and being quiet, like in the past. When I turn the freezer setting to ZERO (off) it does shut down, but even on Freezer-1 setting it's back up again.

Thanks,
Dom
