Default Maytag Fridge model# MSD245GEW

Hi All,
I have a Maytag side by side fridge that doesn't seem to be cooling !!!
The freezer works fine but the fridges temp. is only 50 degrees. I vacuumed the coils in the back, checked the bottom of the freezer to see if it was froze up.........wasn't. I was wondering what the problem could be ??? This stupid fridge never seemed to cool good from the get go, we had it since 2001 and could never keep things as cold as we wanted !!
Does anybody have any ideas before I call in the repair man ??

Good.

What did the evaporator/cooling coils look like?

Even frosted, ball of ice, 1/2 frosted 1/2 bare?

Fan in the freezer working ok? Air vents are open? Light(s) shut off ok when the door is closed?

I did check the lights and they do shut off when the door would be shut.
I don't really know what or where the evaporator/cooling coils are ???
The fan in the freezer seems to be working ok........its running now.
from the time we got this fridge we always had the DUEL COOLING controls........both of them............ set to almost the coldest setting!!!
Was that the wrong thing to do ??? I read somewhere that if the freezer was freezing good you should set that temp. control warmer to get more cold air in the fridge ???

I found the coils in the back of the freezer. They were frozen up on the side towards the fridge. I took a hairdryer and defrosted the ice off the coils and put everything back together. Waiting to see if this helps !!!

Yes wrong....turning up the freezer closes off air flow to the fresh food section.

A little adjustment at a time is better ans takes 24 hours to make a difference.

White frost?..if yes possible the frost free is not working correctly.

Not white frost...........it was solid ice.......like an ice cube built on the right side of the coils !!

Make sure the defrost thermostat is clipped properly onto the tubing....ice should = the heater is working but the defrost cycle is too short or ending too soon = defrost control and defrost thermostat replacement is possible.

that comes from the freezer opening to the fridge
Other way around....this carries warm air from the FF section to the FZ to be recooled....when the refrigerator shuts off the flapper helps to prevent freezer temp air from drafting/falling out of the FZ back into the FF section and make that corner of the crisper too cold.

Default new defrost timer ???

Service man came over and found my fridge iced up on top where the cold air from the freezer comes in to the fridge. He unthawed it and ordered a defrost timer. This was on tuesday when he came, and today it's thursday and I still can't get the fridge to cool as low as I would like , stays around 42 degrees.............I like my beer ice cold !!!!!
Think this defrost timer will fix the problem ???
