Default maytag mbr1956kes lacking cooling

I bought a new maytag about a year ago to replace the side by side I was just dumping money into, and now this one is acting up. The cooling coils in the freezer are freezing solid with frost, the same problem I had with the side by side. This is a freezer on bottom single door model. It had awesome reviews and I didn't see any complaints on this site about them. I cam thaw it out and it works right for about a week or two, but its getting frustrating that its about new and barely works. Thanks in advance for any help.

Model # mbr1956kes

serial #12519755NG

Hi,

Here's the tech. data sheet for your model:
http://www.servicematters.com/maytag...s/16026956.pdf
Run the forced defrost mode and see if your defrost heater comes on, the defrost heater is located underneath the evaporator coils in your freezer, behind the back panel.

Is your evaporator(freezer fan) running that sits above the evaporator coils?

Short answer to the defrost heater working is yes. The heater in my previous side by side was more of a lamp. I see that this is more of a coil style heater, a pipe that runss from side to side underneath the coil. I touched it with a piece of the ice that has formed and it was melting. How long is the "short" test mode, and how can I exit it after the frost has melted? I can see that it is doing its job now, but I don't know when it is going to stop. Thanks for the link!

I adjusted the temperature controls a few times and got the fan to turn on. It spins freely. I think the defrost heater is off now. If it frosts back up is there something else like the timer or thermostat that I would need to check? We have had some high heat and humidity in the last week, but this is the second time it has done it this year. We have been running the air in the house too so its not like its been seeing 20 degree temperature swings either. The house is between 68 and 72 all year, but the humidity might be playing some factor. Thanks for any more information.

If it frosts back up then it would likely be your control board is malfunctioning.

Here's the control board for your model:

Its #5 here:
