Default Maytag MZD2766GEB Refrigerator still not cooling

I have a Maytag MZD2766GEB Side by Wide. Bought several years ago. I replaced the adaptive-defrost part number 61005988 and the heater & therm. assy. part number 61006199 because the refridgerator was warm. In the freezer all the coils were completely frosted. It worked for three months. The refridgerator is now warm again. I defrosted the coils again and it works for a few days but then I'm back to square one. You can see the cool air coming into the fridge for only a few days and then it stops.

The only other thing that was done to the fridge is that a repairman came to replace a relay switch due to a recall.

Can you help. I'm at my wits end.

Doreen

Thats very odd, when did you replace the adaptive control board and the defrost heater/defrost thermostat assembly?

Where did you buy those parts at?

Hi Jake:

The parts were replace in March of this year. I purchased them from Reliable Maytag in Worcester Massachusetts. I asked if the parts could be bad the tech said doubtful. The 90 days was up on June 25th so he won't replace them. The coil in the freezer keeps frosting up. If I defrost it by hand, it runs for a fews days before frosting up again. Could these parts need to be replaced again?

Yes Doreen, sounds like just the adaptive control board would be needing to replaced again, highly unusual though to go bad so fast.

We are an affiliate of a part site that you can purchase a Lifetime Warranty on it for $13 and not have to worry about buying that board ever again.

You can get it here:

Smile Thanks Jake

Thanks so much Jake. I took your advice and ordered the part along with the lifetime warranty. I think its pretty lousy the Maytag store wouldn't take back the part. The part I purchased from this site was $20.00 cheaper than what I paid and I had the option for the lifetime warranty. I had been calling the Maytag repair store near us since before the part was out of warranty to see if they might know what was wrong. You wouldn't believe how many different things they came up with. Can you imagine how much that would have cost me. You really know your stuff. I wish I had contacted you the first time this happened.

By the way is there a way to test the part to see if it is indeed bad?

I'll get in touch with you once the part arrives to let you know how things worked out. Thanks for everything.

Thanks Doreen,

No, but I basically test it by process of elimination, if the defrost thermostat and defrost heater check good, then it can only be the Adaptive control board.

Its extremely rare for the defrost thermostat and defrost heater to go out on these models, and you already replaced them, then your ahead of the game.

Hi Jake: I'm back. Received the adaptive control board next day. Fridge was working great until yesterday July 16th. The fridge is warm again. The freezer is frosted up again as well. Could really use your help on this one again. Any other ideas what could be wrong.

Thats very odd Doreen, your replaced all the parts that control the defrost cycle, so I'm not sure what else to tell you to do.

You'll likely need to have an appliance tech. come out to see why this is happening.

Default Maytag side by wide - stumped

Hi Jake:

I called a Maytag repair place this morning (Saturday). The woman assisted me told me the tech won't be in until Monday. She looked up the serial number and said the fridge is seven years old. I explained the problem and the parts we have already replaced. Her suggestion was to purchase a new fride at a cost of over eleven hundred dollars. I explained in this economy there is no way I would be spending over a thousand dollars on a new fridge. She said the wide by side is no longer made. Do you think I am at the point where I should consider purchasing a used fridge? When the manufacturer replaced the relay switch (recalled) for the compressor, could this have had anything to do with what is happening? Could there be another part we might consider replacing?
Thanks for all your help.

Those are all good questions Doreen, but I'm afraid I don't have a good answer. This problem your having is highly unusual, I've replaced tons of the Adaptive Boards and never had any problems, I think I remember one customer that I went back on about a year after and replaced the Adaptive Board again, but that was it.

Here's a good place to look/purchase new refrigerators:

Not all refrigerators are $1100

And yes, if you have a reputable used appliance store in your area that offers at least a 30-90 day warranty, then that would be fine as well.
