When there was a class action settlement for the moldy door boot, Maytag sent the replacement boot for our Neptune washer to us. Regrettably, the place we bought the unit from was supposed to fix it (with Maytag getting the bill apparently) but did not get it scheduled with us for more than 9 months. When we again followed up with them we were told we were too late and Neptune wouldn't pay them to do it - but we could pay them. Apparently we were supposed to call them constantly despite them saying they would call us to schedule it.
Anyway, I have the boot and have read the manual (online from prior posts) on how to replace it. It is contained in scetion 7. I have previously fixed the door latch from following the manual and gained confidence in my ability to undertake basic repairs with guidance (emphasis on "basic"). Now the big question - is the door boot something I should have the service company do and pay for, or is it a fix which can be done by a do it yourselve homeowner whose skills generally are found at the shallow end of the talent pool? Any views on the difficulty of this fix would be appreciated. I do not wish to take it apart only to realize I am in over my head. Thank you. |

Yes, its quite a job to do it if you've never changed one before, I'd recommend having it done by a repair company if you don't feel you can tackle it yourself.

I've personally replaced the door boot on my Neptune. The job's a PITA but is doable if you have average mechanical skills, IMHO. I did the job several years ago but I seem to recall the most difficult part of the task was attaching the boot around the edge of the door opening. Just take your time and be patient and you should be able to handle it without too much difficulty.
