Default [FIXED] MZD2766GEB door panel rusting @ water fountain

Hi Jake...

I have a few issues to ask you about. I will address in order of my priority's.

I have the MZD2766GEB & as you probably know, the design allows water to seep in between the door panel & drip tray, allowing rust to start buckling the door panel in that area. I see I can special order the door panel from your supply co.

My questions...

#0. Am I correct in assuming that it is only the panel itself that is rusting ?
(anything else ?)

#1. Is there a redesigned part/s that I can order that will prevent this in the future?

#2. By replacing the door panel & then sealing that area (if #1 is not an option) in your opinion, should this prevent a repeat issue?

#3. How rough is it to replace the panel? (We are in central Ca & I may elect to have a repairman do the door panel replacement vs me.) I also suspect my solenoid for ice door is getting ready to go. It is getting louder that when new, but still holds the door open ok. Am I right & if so, would it be easier to replace along with door panel replacement ?

We love the fridge & you have helped me repair it, so we'd like to keep it as long as possible.

thanks in advance

Kim

Hi Kim,

The outer freezer door panel is in stock here, but its costly at $207:
Manufacturer part number 61005881 is RepairClinic item number 1005556

Its not all that difficult to change, Its just a matter of removing all the inner door liner screws and fountain screws, but its extremely time consuming, and sometimes the fountain parts don't always come out of the old door panel easy.

They used to make a complete fountain assembly that was much easier, but I don't see that listed anymore.

Here's the fountain kit for your model:
Manufacturer part#12001991 is RepairClinic item#940492

Here's the fountain kit instruction sheet:
