Unhappy Admiral Designer Series HMG 191537 Wits end

Heya,

I am at my wits end with my admiral designer series frig/freezer combo. Top box is freezer and bottom is frig. I am having a common problem that plagues a lot of us that have posted on this forum and I have no idea where to begin because all of the information I have gathered from this site seems not to apply to my model.

My freezer isn't freezing and the frig portion is barely hanging on to acceptable chill levels. I have found from reading the forums that to begin troubleshooting this issue I should check for frost in the freezer. I have done so and I see none. Mind you I checked on the inside of the unit and all I have is light condensation in the freezer (that can't be good). Secondly I have attempted to locate my defrost timer by removing the front bottom kick plate and I see nothing but a drip pan. There is no timer in sight. Its pretty barren down there.

I have searched high and low on multiple websites/forums/message boards/DIY repositories and NOTHING matches my serial number.

I have came here in hopes of gaining knowledge of the where abouts of my damn defrost timer so I can start there hehe. I'd like to be able to reset the frig so I can try and detect heat from the coils. on the inside bottom portion of my freezer bay.

Things I know:

Only one removable rear rectangular panel exists for accessing the back side of the frig.

No defrost timer behind the kick plate.

Multiple access points inside the lower frig portion.

Someone wanna give me a hand?

Hi,

The defrost timer on this model should be located inside your refrigerator section inside the temp. control console on the front refrigerator ceiling, usually there is a small hole underneath that you can put a flathead screwdriver up into and turn it clockwise till it shuts off your refrigerator, then its in defrost for about 20-30 minutes.

Is your refrigerator running at all, or just dead silent?

The unit is running, air is flowing which leads me to assume that fans are running but the temp is above the freezing point in the freezer and the frig portion is cool compared to being cold.

I observed the control panel at the top of the refrigeration unit. There are controls for both the temp in the frig and freezer but no visible holes. Do I need to remove the control unit to get to the hole to reset the defrost timer?

I'm in dire need and this refrigerator is about to meet a sledge hammer hehe.

If You can't locate the access hole, then yes remove the console assembly to access the defrost timer.
