Default Maytag washer won't spin M#HAV2557AWW

Hi, I have a maytag washer that won't spin. The motor, belt, and thrust bearing are all in good shape. When I manually turn the transmission it agitates when spun in either direction. There never seems to be any downward force to lock the thrust bearing into spin. This is all the more familiar I am with maytag's. Any suggestions?

Thanks
Brandon

Ok Brandon, Then the transmission is the problem.

How old is this washer? If you don't know post the serial# of your washer and I can tell you.

You should have a 5 yr. parts warranty on the transmission from Maytag.

Here's the transmission for your model:
Manufacturer part number 35-6615 is RepairClinic item number 1472816
35-6615

If you change the transmission yourself, its a big job, be prepared for an all day job.

Serial # 10383635cx. I believe it was purchased 01/1994. It is a friends grandparents. I was an appliance tech for 12 years but mainly for GE. Does this need a spanner to take out the spin basket?

Thanks

No Brandon,

The spin basket is just held in by 4 bolts once you remove the agitator you will see them.
