Default Replacing Maytag (SAV4655EWW) belt

I have the above model and it looks nearly impossible replacing the single belt without first removing the bottom panel of the washer. To do that would mean to disconnect 6-8 heavy springs that are connected to the base so that in spinning the tub stays balanced. The reason why I think I need to take the bottom panel off is that there is only 1.5" of work room from the pump to the bottom panel. Is there any easier way of replacing the belt on this washer? Again, it has only a single belt.

No, you don't remove the bottom panel. Your washer was designed by Amana before Maytag bought them out.

Here's the repair manual that shows you how to replace the belt on page 23:

You can print it out as well.

Thanks for helping in getting belt on. In test run I notice that in spinning cycle after about two minutes, the tub is spinning slower and I am getting a "rubber smell." There seems to be resistence from enabling the tub to spin easier. Also notice a louder noise than before. When I lift the top lid while spinning, the tub has totally stopped within one second. Do you think I need to get a repair man to look at it or do you think that I with maybe a slightly above average mechanical skills should be able to correct the problem.

Thanks again for your help.

Yes, its advisable to have a tech. come out for this issue, it could be a bad bearing or the transmission assembly thats bad.
