Hello, I have a 5 year old Maytag S/S GC2227CDFB. Last week frost started to form just inside the freezer door (acroos the top and along the sides for about 12 inches on each side wall). I have checked the door seal and it seems perfect and clean. The fridge is level and the doors are aligned perfectly. I have checked for frost/ice at the rear on the evaporator, but all is well and fan working. Also fan and coil at condenser are working. Can you help ?

Yes, that indicates an air leak, carefully inspect the door gaskets again.

Thats about it, don't know what else to advise you to check, you can check your ice dispenser door flapper where the ice comes out in the front to make sure thats sealing good.

Door seals are definitely OK. Just put a thermometer in the fridge. The fridge temp (with knob turned to max cool setting) is 50 degree F. The freezer temp is minus 30 degrees F. This may explain the frost, but what is causing the problem. Checked the canal that joins the freezer & fridge. There was some ice there, but melted it with a hair dryer.
Any ideas ?

I'd take the food out of the freezer and the lower freezer shelves, then take off the lower back access panel#20 here and see if your evaporator coils#8 are all massively frosted up, normal would be a thin layer of frost on all the coils:

Jake,

Spent a bit of time on this today. Here is the state of play.

1. Condenser motor running normally.
2. No lint or dust in condenser..spotless.
3. Removed back panel
4. No ice build up on evaporator coils
5. Evaporator (freezer) fan running.
6. Removed cooling control housing
7. No blockage in damper section or duct from fridge to freezer..definitely
8. Located defrost control timer and advanced with screw driver.
9. Heating element came on at evaporator coil for approx 20 mins and then shut off.
10. No sign of leak in either door seal.

Still problem is freezer is getting too cold.
Compressor running continuously.
No cold air entering fridge.. Can't feel any cool air at top duct. Fridge temp around 50 degrees.

Starting to wonder if there is a problem with the freezer motor not being powerful enought to force air into fridge section ??

Please help.

Ok, now lets check your return air vent, its #8 here, its located inside the refrigerator section at the bottom left after you take your lower crisper's out you should see it.:


If that vent flapper stays closed when its running then that may account for the issue your having:

I checked this flap yesterday and it was open. Just checked it now and it is closed. On both occasions there was an amount of ice down here. I just gave it a push and now it is open.
Should there be ice down around here ? I have had a look inside with a flash light and there isn't any visible ice inside. Would a hair dryer work ?
How does this flapper housing detach from the fridge side wall ?

Was it open when the refrigerator was running? or with the refrigerator not running?

Normal would be OPEN with the refrigerator running, CLOSED with the refrigerator NOT running.
