Its likely then the compressor is starting to lock-up intermittently on you. How old is this refrigerator? If you don't know post the serial# and I can tell you. Some models have a 5 yr. compressor warranty on them from Jenn Air.

I purchased it in Nov 2000 so it's exactly 9 years old.

When I checked out the fridge this morning (after my previous post), it was already running fine and cooling again. I replaced the overload anyway just to be safe. The new relay looked fine. The fridge is now (4hrs later) 39 degrees and cooling just fine.

I agree with you.. I think the compressor is intermittently locking up and starting to die.

Is there anything else I can troubleshoot or do, or should I start looking for a new fridge?

How long would you say I have before this thing entirely kicks the bucket? I know it's hard to tell, but will it make it a week? A month? I'd like to wait for a fridge sale, but I can run out and buy one tomorrow if that's my only choice....

Thanks!

Yes, time to go refrigerator shopping.

Average life of refrigerators now is between 8-12 years.

I don't know how much longer till it locks-up completely, Possibly about a week or so.
