Default MZD2766GEW not cooling

Model Number: MZD2766GEW
Brand: Maytag
Age: 5 - 10 years

I bought a Maytag MZD2766GEW used from a local furniture store. I really like the fridge and its perfect for my kitchen. I plugged it in today and the fridge doesnt come on. I tried moving temperature selector all the way over to coldest setting back and forth but it wont come on. The freezer works perfect though. About every 10 minutes, it makes a buzzing sound like its trying to start up but then quits after about 5-10seconds.

I am new to appliances but I am not scared to get in there and learn.

ALso I am going to swing by the place I bought it and see what they offer but for the short money I bought it for, I expect them to say return it and get a different one. I would like to spend some time diagnosing the issue with this one and see if its salvageable. I didnt check if it worked before I bought it. Stupid me. When I was transporting it, I layed it on its side and it stayed there for about 30minutes tops for the ride home. I let it stand upright in the house for about an hour before I plugged it in. I dont know if that matters.

It sounds like your compressor is bad, whats the temperature in the freezer right now?

The freezer is cold! Really cold. I will buy a thermostat today to find out what its registering at. The freezer works perfect.

The fridge did get colder but I think its because the freezer is so cold and its transfering the cold over to the fridge. It still make the sound every 10 minutes and buzzes then quits after 10 seconds.

I talked to the place I bought it from today and he is coming to look at it on Thursday to try and fix it. I think they will probably take another compressor out of another fridge and swap it in. They have alot of parts appliances.

So do you think its the compressor? If they sway it out, does it have to be recharged?

When you open the freezer door, do you hear the freezer fan running?

Yes, if another compressor is installed they will need to recharge it.

Yes, I can here the fan on in the freezer. For instance, when I slide both temperature controls to the lowest point, everything is off. When I slide freezer control over, freezer kicks on. If I slide fridge control over, nothing happens.

It does sound like something is stuck when fridge tries to come on. Say the compressor is frozen. Is it on a system that will try to kick the compressor over for a few second then give up and try again later... say about every 10 minutes?

I have left the fridge plugged in this whole time with the sound its making in hope it will fix itelf. I dont want to do any damage to it so when I get home, I am going to do an infared test of both sides to get a temperatrure reading then will unplug it until thursday.

I will also give the guys a heads up of a possible frozen compressor. I would take back panel off myself but last thing I need is for them to acuse me of messing with it and passing it off as if its something I did as it seems like they are that those type of people.

If the compressor is frozen, does anyone have any good ones laying around? I dont mind buying new if they are 200ish priced but anymore, I think I would try a used unit.

The refrigerator slider isn't for turning the refrigerator on, the freezer slider turns the refrigerator and freezer on, the refrigerator slider is just a air duct that diverts more air into the refrigerator section from the freezer.

Compressors are extremely difficult to change out, a licensed refrigeration tech. can only install those.

Just wait till the tech comes out.
