Thumbs up Admiral LNC Tub bangs/bounces around

Hi there,
I am a Sears employee working at the Teleserv Call Center, and i have an Admiral Washer model: LNC6759A71. Fills, goes through agitation properly but very often the tub bangs around inside the cabinet violently like an off balance load. Open the lid, redistribute towels, and runs and bangs all around. The floor is level, the unit does not walk, when you open the lid you can see the tub spinning out of control instead of in a circular manner.
I have a couple experiences working on machines, (my 86 Camaro) so i am somewhat mechanically/electrically inclined:
- Admiral Dryer drum turned but wouldnt heat, tore apart found the blower wheel had broken and tripped hi limit and fuse, replaced parts worked fine.
- Admiral Washer leaking water underneath, drain hose from tub had a line break along a crease, replaced worked good. Water trickled into washer constantly while unit was not being used, replaced water inlet valve, works great.
So i hear that these washers had damper pads, but i really cannot see where they are. The tub can be moved easily by applying a horizontal force on it in any direction, it pivots and that ability seems to be the reason why it will bang into the cabinet. I have seem some diagrams of the direct drive washers, but i cannot correlate it with this belt driven one. I took off the front panel and tipped it over and peaked at the belt pulleys. Do you have a picture of the area i am looking for, and what general steps are involved? Do i have to take the agitator out? I was trying to take the agitator out just for fun, and i removed the bolt in the center, but i cant get that thing to come out. Anyway, thanks for the help, i appreciate it and good luck with those long routes, Jake.

Damper pad/snubber ring. Damper pad is #34

Snubber pad

To change the damper pad, springs come off, belt comes off, pump hose and WLC hose are removed and the whole assembly is lifted out to replace the snubber/damper ring. Area must be clean of any soap/water and oil.....a little corn starch can be used to lube the ring.

Not overly needed for your job....but has some pics....

A few questions:
- With the front removed; does the center module in the middle have a whitish gray dust/film spread around? That would be the pads/snubber.
- How are the springs arrayed that help brace the tub in place? Have any slipped a notch? Are they weak and overly flexible?

Jeff: Thanks for the help, I am beginning to see clearly now where it is, it seems to be almost a bearing under the housing, the reason i cannot see it is because it is sandwiched between the bottom of the cabinet and that center housing...ahhhh. BTW, the pictures really helped.

Kevin:
A few questions:
- With the front removed; does the center module in the middle have a whitish gray dust/film spread around? That would be the pads/snubber.

Answer: Yes, its got bright white dust that looks like fiberglass fibers or white plastic shavings.

- How are the springs arrayed that help brace the tub in place? Have any slipped a notch? Are they weak and overly flexible?

Answer: The springs are all connected and in their notches, some are a little weaker than the others, and we bought this thing from Montgomery Ward. The springs seem to be working ok, it pivots at the base too much.
Thanks for the help Kevin.

Jake: Congratulations!!! No more eta calls, why dont you have the part on the truck questions!! (until monday haha ) Good luck...

One more question... Do i need a special tool for this job because of the brake spring? It looks pretty straight forward... Thanks for the help!!

A tool exists for removing those springs. I don't have one though.

Depending on the positioning, I use long handled slip-join pliers, short handled slip-joint pliers, a long bladed screw driver, and a small screw driver to brace the tub in the direction I need it to lean when popping a spring back on. Just be careful about overstretching any of the springs.

The procedure Jeff outlined should get you done. Keep the surface clean of debris and burs ( found a screw that had gotten down there and chewed up the base on a Maytag once )

On a final note, some snubber kits come with the springs. If they aren't too much, might recommend replacing them as well. Good luck.

Its funny you mentioned that part on truck question, Since they changed my Sears Van to an A&E last October, my part orders went through the roof!

I keep telling my parts and truck stock people and manager that something is badly wrong, and needs to be restocked to what i had in my Sears Van, I tryed, I tryed, I tryed, to no advil, then once i told them I may be leaving Sears, which was in September, they finely started acting, but it was too little, too late!

I'm still lucky enough to have my Sears van. I request a few parts and get no feedback, but heaven forbid if they switch everyone to A&E in WV and strip us down.

Lucid - Having any luck yet? Or waiting on ye olde snubber kit?

Yea, I was with Montgomery Ward for 11 years, they switched us to A&E back in 1996, and it was all down hill from there.

If Sears does the same thing, I will guarantee the end of Sears as we know it.
