I inherited this dishwasher with the house, so I don't know how long it has had this problem. I can see the water running out of the bottom of the door. There's about 1 cup or more of water on the floor in front of the machine after each use. (Now that I think of it, there may be water going under the unit too. YUK!)
Anyway, the black rubber thingy (I think it might be the gasket) is not identical on both sides, The termination on one side rounds through the bottom of the door opening, but on the other side it seems to have been ripped off. Come to think of it, I found a random piece of black rubber on the kitchen floor but didn't know where it came from. (Hmmm... could this be the work of my toddler? )
Is the gasket difficult to replace? Can I pick up the parts at the Home Depot?
Sounds like the door gasket is the problem, its easy to change, just pushes in, but the model# you posted is not showing thats a good number, please check it again, then we can give you a link to order the gasket.
OK. It's not the gasket. The water problem is even worse now. I was using kitchen towels at the base to catch the water at first, but now I've just stopped using the machine because the volume of water has only increased over time.
My husband suggested that I needed to just try doing a normal maintenance cycle on the dishwasher and clean out whatever gunk may have collected, but I can't figure out what I would need to pull out and the Maytag website didn't offer a user manual (supposedly because the machine is so old).
Does anyone know where I should start now?
Is it time to call the repairman?
I usually run the dishwasher 2-3 times/day. So, I really miss being able to use it. I"d love to just scrap this one and get a new one, but if this is a simple fix, I'd rather keep the money.
Ok, a couple more things it could be is the spray arm cracked, the grommet broken around the dispenser door latch, or your door vent clogged or stuck shut.
I know its been a year since the last post, but I am now running into this problem. I have a Maytag DWU5902AAB that was also inherited through the purchase of the house. I took a look at the gasket, and was surprised that it didn't go completely seal around the door; the whole bottom edge has no gasket, nor a place for one. Anyway, I noticed that one side of the gasket was coming out, so I thought maybe that was the issue. I'm running my dishwasher now to see if that fixed it, but I'd also like to know from Lighthouse Wife, how her problem was resolved. What was the fix? Thank you
