How to clean water/ice dispenser tubing with vinegar?
Brand:
Maytag
Age:
1-5 years
We have a Maytag refrigerator and the water and ice cubes have started showing floating goop upon dispensing.
We followed the directions here:
How to Clean a Water Dispenser on a Refrigerator Door | eHow.com
to clean out the system. However, after disconnecting the water supply line and trying to pour in the vinegar (step 2), we can not get the vinegar to go into the water reservoir. It fills the first tubing and then stops.
Any suggestions on how to get more than a few tablespoons of vinegar to go in? We tried a syringe but it just leaked all over the floor. Or any other ways to clean the system out?
Thank you.

Ok, I'm my 20 plus years of appliance repair I've never ever cleaned out the plastic water line with vinager or anything else, as I knew the results would still not be good, as you see on yours.
There's not a way to clean out that water tank that I'm aware of. From all the ones I've run into like this I always replace the water tank assembly.
Here's the water tank assembly for your model you can order here:
Manufacturer's Number: R0131625

Its fairly easy to change, you just cut the plastic water lines from the outside of the back of your refrigerator before they go into the refrigerator section, make sure you have some slack, don't cut the lines too close to where the go into the refrigerator section from the back.
Then you remove the tank, should be 1 or 2 screws holding it in place, then install the new tank, and use the compression fittings that come with the new tank to reconnect the 2 water lines you cut.
Thats it.
Its #11 here, its located behind your crispers in the lower half of your refrigerator section:
