Default RSW2400BAE Water Freezing in Bottom of Freezer and running onto Floor

    Model Number: RSW2400BAE
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

Water freezes solid in the bottom of freezer and runs onto the floor. Im assuming this is clogged drain but I cant find it. If you have any pictures that would help as I dont know what the items look like that I am searching for.

Take everything out of the freezer and remove the back panel from inside the freezer, its #30 here:
    Replacement parts for MAYTAG RSW2400BAE REF - SXS/I&W | AppliancePartsPros.com

Then at the bottom under the coils you will see the drain trough, its likely clogged with ice, use a hair dryer and hot water to clear the ice, then you will see the drain hole.

Then run something down the drain hole, then run a little bleach down it.

I use a evaporator cooler spider snake to run down that defrost drain hole:

They are used basically in Arizona to clean out the water pump tubes that run to the cooler pads.

I don't know if they would sell them in your area, but if you go to your local hardware store, they should have something similar to run down your drain to clean it completely out.

I got in there and just took the panel off and found the drain hole, the first thing i did was pour some warm water in the hole and it spills out from the black stopper thing underneath the drain hole and onto the bottom of the freezer. It does look stopped up but my question is does the fact that its spilling out from that black stopper mean theres another problem in addition to being clogged?

Click on diagram#10 from the link I posted above, then #44 is that black grommet, you should be able to push through that with the evaporator cooler spider snake, or something similar. If your not able to then you will likly need to order and replace that grommet, it goes under the drain trough#22. Its not a easy job to do as you have to lift the drain trough up to replace it by removing the evaporator housing screws, then lift up on the evaporator housing#31.

I ordered the snake you suggested but in the mean time, i was able to push a drinking straw all the way down the length of the straw. I will do the full snake when it comes.

Regarding the grommet. I can tell by feeling it that the top of the grommet, the part that connects to the metal base of the drain hole seems like there a gap between the grommet and the metal. when i push down on that metal base flush with the grommet and pour water, none leaks out however it sstill seems clogged maybe which i will be able to solve with the snake.

The gap between the top of the grommet and the metal base of the drain hole , does that mean the grommet need replaced?

    thanks for your help

Possibly yes, but I'd wait till you get to snake to be sure.

I ran the snake in and flushed with hot water. RUnning through much better, but still have water running out from the top of the grommet because its not flush with the water tray. I guess I will have to fix that too.

    Thanks for your help

Ok, yes then you'll likely need the new grommet.
