Default Icemaker kaput on MSD2957AEW

Side by side Maytag MSD2957AEW with external water/ice dispenser.

This thing gets lots of use. Six in household. Deteriorating for past year or more. Dispenser switch on door got sticky first - it would stay on after pressing glass against the dispenser switch; would shut off by opening freezer or repressing switch repeatedly. Now one arm of the two holding the flap that holds the ice back broke. Also today the water would not stop coming out by itself unless put on the lock position. Luckily this spontaneous dispension was witnessed by my dear wife who quickly lept into action to stop the devil from damaging our new floor.

I am wondering what might need to be fixed and whether I can try myself. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Its likely you will need a new control board and solenoid and flapper door assembly, I used to repair alot of these with that same problem.

Here is a site that can help you get the parts and repair manual , if you wanted to tackle it yourself:
RepairGuru

If you have a appliance repair company do it, your looking at about $200+.
