I have a 5 year Maytag frig Model No AFC2033DRQ (side by side with freezer on the bottom) were the freezer is working / but the frig section is not. I have looked at some of the posts and found some good info:

Check and make sure both fans are working. The evaporator fan is in the freezer section and the condenser fan is by the compressor. Make sure the condenser coils are clean and air flow across them is not restricted. See if the compressor is running. Frost or ice on the back wall of the freezer section would indicate a defrost problem and requires further testing.

The evaporator fan (in the back is running), and a slight layer of frost on the back wall of the freezer. I will look for ice on the condenser coils tomorrow.

The condenser fan (in the back is running), and a slight layer of frost on the back wall of the freezer. There is no ice on the coils, and that middle door divider (on the left door) is hot to the touch.

You have a defrost issue. You'll need to remove the back wall and you will see ice on the coils. Use a meter to check the defrost heater and defrost thermostat for continuity. If both check good then you'll need to replace the control board. Check the defrost thermostat first while it's covered with ice. It needs to be below 40*F to read closed. With the back wall off defrost the evaporator with a hair dryer and get all the ice out. Then it will work for a while untill you replace the part that is bad. Here is all three parts:

Opened up the inside of the freezer, and found the ice. Checked for continuity on the defrost heater and found none. Forgot to check the defrost thermostat. Should I only replace the defrost heater and thermostat (since inside is open, being defrosted)? Would replacing the defrost thermostat be easy? the defrost heater looks pretty stairforward.
thanks for your help.

Just replace the heater. Defrost the evaporator with a hair dryer and get all the ice out.

The defrost thermostat needs to be below 40*F to close. If it's below 40* and reads open or shows infinite resistance, it's bad.
