Jenn-Air ice maker jamming and water pouring out
Brand:
Jenn-Air
Age:
6-10 years
My ice maker periodically jams, the ice gets stuck under the paddles that push it out and has to be cleared out to resume ice making. Usually its one cube, today the entire row of cubes stuck and stuck in a position where the water kept coming in to fill the ice cube tray. I realized I had a problem when the water started pouring out of the ice dispenser on the front of the freezer door. Clearing the jammed ice stopped the water flow, I assume because the paddles were able to rotate a little further. If it's relevant I replaced the water filter a couple weeks ago, the tube the water comes in through was not clogged. Just about everything inside the freezer was coated with ice as a result. I have cleaned up the mess and am waiting to see if the ice maker is still working, but it is probably over filled at this point.
Any idea what happened and how to prevent it from happening again? Thank goodness I was at home and sitting 10 feet from the freezer when this happened or I can only imagine the mess I would be dealing with now.
Thanks

But can you tell me what is failing that requires this be replaced?

Combination of twisted or misaligned ejector rake and the coating on the mold starting to separate causing ice cubes to jamb then causing more problems in the power module. The original fix was to replace the parts but the cost of the parts exceeded the cost of a new ice-maker.
