I have a Maytag refrigerator and my question pertains to the refrigerator door. The shelves fall out of the door when you open the door! I purchased the refrigerator new in 2000 and have had the problem since I purchased.
It appears as if the liner is bowed outwards. I have seen on some parts websites whereas they have liner supports but would not know if this fixes the issue. The part number is: 61003979 and is called a Liner Support Inserts (Sides). Anybody have any idea if this is the correct part to correct the problem or has anybody else had any other problems with the shelves falling out? I don't want to drill into the liner and attach it with screws (as a tech advised) if there is a part to correct the problem. Thanks in advance. |

Unfortunately the information your were given by the Technician is correct. Unless you install screws through the shelves they will continue to fall out. ffice ffice" />I'm sure you would like an explanation as to why this is happening and why it is a necessary to screw the shelves in place. When the door is manufactured the interior of the door itself is filled with a liquid insulation composite that dries and cures to form an efficient barrier against heat transfer. Although it is a efficient way to promote energy conservation, it is not always as reliable as hoped. If the insulation cures incorrectly it can cause the door liner itself to warp and bow out of it's designated shape. Causing the very issue you are experiencing. Unfortunately the most effective and economical way to repair this issue is to install the kit that was recommended to you and possibly screw the shelves in place. I hope this has been of assistance to you.

Any idea as to the size of screws to use? I do not want to pierce the front of the door.

Usually 1/4" and 5/16" screws are the most common to use.

Maytag blows! I'll never buy another. I'm sure the other companies are just as bad. |
