Guessing on the age as the wife and I just bought the house and the washer dryer came with.
Ive noticed in the recent past:
-smell of belt burning
-water not emptying during spin
-tried changing cycle to delicate and had success a few times with draining.
what ive done
- disconnect belt and hand spin all (3 - motor tub pump) pulleys both ways successfully. (noticed the tub pulley would only spin tub clockwise, assumed had to do with washing cycle)
- remove pump (3 bolts) and disassemble (4 bolts) and cleaned some lint that didnt seem to hinder movement by hand. reassembled.
- checked all drain tubes for blockage. none found.
- all reassembled and tested with extra small cycle. still not draining.
What happens instead?
This unit runs the motor in one direction to agitation and in the other direction to spin and drain.....motor runs but not draining, motor/washer goes dead, drains water slowly....etc? Motor reversing?
motor runs but not draining
tub spins as fast as it can depending on fullness and have seen water on floor from under washer assumed it was overflow from spinning but not draining.
I have in the past couple days been able to get it to drain by turning the dial to delicate but that no longer works.
Double check the hoses, double check for something between the tubs like a coin/sock/spong or such. Make sure the impellor inside the pump hasn't broken free and is not really turning when the belt and pulley underneath the washer are turning.
Double check the hoses
- both are clear of obstructions.
double check for something between the tubs like a coin/sock/spong or such.
- how do I ensure this? is there a way to remove the internal tub/agitator from the water holding tub?
I assumed it to be free of obstruction as well. my reasoning is the ease with which the water still left in the tub escaped to the floor when I lowered the exit hose from its perch in the drain pipe to the floor in order to check the hoses and remove the pump.

- i removed the pump and with water still in it, hand spun the pump and water moved as expected.

Yes the wash basket can come off, sometimes peeking through the holes with a flash light can help to find/see something.

Something like a coin can float around and allow water flow but get sucked into something or over something when the pump engages.....with a not finding a common or simple reason for not draining you may have to start thinking outsise of the box.

Stick your finger in the pump and try holding it back while you turn the pulley.
You said:
Motor runs in spin and drain mode
Nothing in the hoses to and from the pump
Belt should be intact since spinning tries to occur
Pump is good and not broken
Nothing is between the tanks
= should be draining.
You have missed something along the way.
Only thing I can think of trying is to prop up the washer, set to spin and drain and observe what is happening underneath....belt, pump, pulleys, etc.
I once had a bandaid get caught in a drain hose....could blow air through, could run water through at the sink with the hose off the washer but every time I tried the hose on the washer it would not drain
i missed focusing on the burning belt smell i mentionedin the first post.
put it all back together again
ran no load cycle. all worked ok.
ran small cycle w clothes wash cycle was fine, spin/drain was slow turning tub and smell of belt. tipped washer back while in cycle saw belt wabbling.
while tightening the belt, i noticed the motor mount bolts are stripped as i cannot tighten either enough to actually get a grip with those plastic looking thick washers to the metal motor mounting plate.
new motor or other ideas? i have thought of fashioning a spacer of sorts but i dont like temporary and I dont want to be doing this again anytime soon.
