    Default Maytag Neptune Dryer Diagnosis Problem

    Model Number: MDE5500AYW
    Brand: Maytag
    Age: 6-10 years

    Hello,

    My mother had her Neptune Dryer diagnosed by a repair man. He told her the "main elec control board assembly" was bad. They wanted $300 for the board.

    Replaced the board today, same issue.

    The Number board Estimated Time shows 50
    Dr Temp = regular
    Cycle = Normal
    Signal = 0n
    Start/Pause was blinking.

    None of the buttons are responding.

    Did the repair rep get it wrong? Or, is the board I purchased also toast?

    How can I diagnose this further?

    Thanks in advance for your help.

    Regards,

    Yes, the repair person got it wrong.

    You need the control panel touchpad assembly.

    Here's the membrane control panel touchpad assembly for your model you can order(For Maytag serial# that starts with 68 or lower):
    Manufacturer's Number: 33002536

    Here's the membrane control panel touchpad assembly for your model if your dryer serial# starts with 69 or higher:
    Manufacturer's Number: 22004444

    OK, finally got around to replacing the control panel touch assembly... I put in the newer control panel while I was at it. While I was there it did start up.

    Now my mother is telling me the dryer will start, run for a little while and then stop. The sounds she described on the phone sounded like a motor stopping under a load? I'm going over there soon and will get more information...

    Do you think this new stopping problem was the actual cause of the membrane failure? Or, has my mother put the dryer into some sort of mode that actually stops it normally? She says she's never heard the dryer do that before.

    I think I'll also try putting in the original control panel while I'm there.

    You'll have to go there and see whats going on and run a load in all cycles and see how long it runs before it stops, then if and when it stops try and restart it again right away.
