Anyone have advice on replacing (removing) the shaft ball bearings in a Maytag Neptune FL washer (MAH 3000) without replacing the entire outer tub and inner tub support? Are the size and specs for the bearings known? Maytag will not give me this info. Mine has possible damage to the inner of the two ball bearings due to leaky water seal. The steel shaft is still in perfect condition. I cleaned and greased (needle injected) the bearing and put in a new seal, but the bearing still produces some high pitched noise at fast spin (no deep rumbling), so there's no way to know how long it will last. I'm furious that there is no way to replace the bearing without replacing the plastic outer tub and probably the inner tub support (shaft) as well. I have the old, original, design; the new "replacement" tubs apparently require the new shaft (inner tub support). Parts alone are very nearly the price of a "new" (repaired return merchandise, one year warranty) Neptune FL sold at the Maytag repair center. Thanks!!!!

Hi,

Part of a full model#.

Most ( all? ) of the front loads made today have the bearing built into the outer shell and not seperate.

That is the way we are doing it, outer shell and spider/support shaft. We haven't had to do very many Maytag bearings compared to other makes

Example model, MAH3000AEW

Outer shell and bearing

Spinner support

Default Bearing replacement

Thankfully I had an extended warranty with my unit, paid about $70 for an additional 3-4 yrs. Had my unit for about 3 yrs and the bearing started making noises. Maytag service told me it would cost about $800 to replace the tub with the bearings. Maytag told me that this early models had the bearings pressed onto the tub shaft too. The tub and bearing are all one assy. I am glad I didnt have to fix this issue. Good luck on your issue.

Hhhhhmmmm, I am having this issue but only spoaradically. Sometimes the washer will develop a high pitched whine (and gradually get louder until it is practically deafening), like a jet engine spooling up, on the spin cycle. Probably the bearings, meaning the outer shell and along with the spinner support?

Thanks again.

Yes, thats what yours will need as well, but the price is much higher now than it was in 2005, so at $500 plus for just the outer shell bearing assembly, its not worth it, just save that money for a new washer.

I was already there, yeah, thanks.

The kicker is that we just passed on a new one before year-end (you know, discounts, rebates, tax credit, etc)

BTW on the other thread, maybe I needed more than 5 posts before I could edit.
