I noticed that the refrigerator and the freezer are not as cool as before. The ice cream is rather soft. Several months ago I had this problem and you suggested I replace a defrost heater coil behind the freezer wall. I did this and it worked fine till now except ofcourse the icemaker problem which is also fine so far.
There is a little frost on the rear freezer wall though it is not as severe as before. Any other suggestions. could the coil go bad again or is it something else! I seemed to have misplaced the schematics you gave the last time. Please help!! Maytag Model MSD2957AEA; Seral No 11887913WW Last edited by Vinod; May 3rd, 2006 at 06:40 PM.. |

Hi,
I guess I'm a little confused, The previous posts that I helped you on was the dispenser switch, I don't see any posts on the defrost heater coil that I went over you with. Unless you were reading some else's posts about the defrost problem. If your noticing frost build up behind your freezer panel, then its a good chance that defrost board is going bad, which has been a common issue with these Maytag Side by Sides as talked about here: http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/showthread.php?t=223 Jake

I think that you are right - I did read one of the posted replies.
I openened the back panel in the freezer to expose the coil and it was fully iced up. It is currently defrosting. Could any part here need replacing or is it wise to just replace since the unit is about 6 years old. And where is the defrost board located? Any schematic help would be appreciated. I would need help in ordering the right parts. thanks Last edited by Vinod; May 4th, 2006 at 10:41 AM.. |

I noticed that the door on the refrigerator is not closing properly all the time. Have to remember to give that last firm push to fully close the refigeratot door. While doing this the freezer opens a little bit and then closes properly however.
the door seals look like they are in good condition and once firmly closed there appear to be no gaps! Could this closing problem be the culprit. Seems logical to address this problem first. thanks vinod |

Yes, definitely,
Try to adjust the door hinge to see if it closes better. Jake

I tried to adjust the hinge as best as I could. I cleaned and sprayed it with a lubricant (Litheum) but did not improve at all. The door comes to an almost closed position but the last bit needs an extra push. My neighbors Sears refrigerator makes a distinctive click when it closes. I cannot remember if mine made a similar noise - ever.
