Default Icemaker problem Maytag Model MSD2957AEA

The water dispenser used to stick for a while now and we had to be careful to ensure that the water had turned off. Sometimes putting oblique pressure on the rubber or plastic cover of the switch did the trick. However recently the water did not shut off and we had to shut off the water supply. When I opened the freezer door I noticed that water was dripping from the ice maker on top and the ice bin was full. The wire that moves up when the ice is full to stop ice making seemed to be in the up position.

I would like to try and fix on my own if you could tell me the which parts I need!

This is the parts diagram for your model:
http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImageP...&titleID=00009

Sounds like you may need a new water dispenser switch #11. or the water inlet valve .

If you unplug the refrigerator and turn on your water supply, if it comes out the front dispenser, that means its your water inlet valve faulty.

Was the ice maker arm up resting on the ice, or way up in the stay-up notch position?

Default Ice Maker problem reply

I am not a 100% sure but it seemed to be at a slight angle to the horizontal (down) The bin was rather full.

Does the sticking of the dispenser swith have anything to do with it and while I am at it should I replace anything to rectify that problem

Thanks for the prompt reply!

No, the ice sensor arm shouldn't cause the dispenser switch to have issues.

If you run that water test I posted, then you could see if its your water valve or switch thats the problem.

Default water test

I ran the water test ie. Unplgged the fridge and turned on the water. No water ran out the front. There was a drop or so that dripped. I let it stand for a couple of hours before I plugged it back and turned the water off for now!

The switch arrived yesterday and it took about an hour of slow and deliberate work to install. It works fine now and thank you very much.

Do you suggest I replace the inlet valve also. Seems like it is a problem part and the replacement valve is supposed to be an improvement. If so can I get a schematic for it too to aid in the replacement.

Once again Thanks!

Good job in fixing it vinod.

Yes, you can replace that water inlet valve.

This parts diagram does not show the water inlet valve actual location, but its in the very back once you pull your refrigerator out from the wall, you will see it, the water supply line is attached to it.
This link will show you the back where the condenser is:
http://www3.sears.com/imaging/ImageP...&titleID=00001

The condenser is #9, the water inlet valve sits to the right side of that condenser.
