Default Roper Refrigerator Leaking

I posted in this category because I believe that Roper is part of the Maytag family. My Roper refridgerator is leaking water and freezing in the "fridge" area. The leak is coming from the upper "wall" and flooding the top shelf of my fridge area. I haven't begun taking anything apart yet but I was hoping that someone could shed some light before I tear into this one. Am I most probably looking for a clogged line, bad thermostat, ect? First time poster here, please forgive any irregularities in my questioning.

Thanks,
Chad

You could say that....Roper is manufactured by Whirlpool, who recently bought Maytag.

No model number, but sounds like a freezer on top with a clogged defrost drain.

Some things to check.

thanks Mac. Never worked on a fridge before but I'm technically inclined enough to wade through it. I'll give it a look and if I get stumped, I'll be back w/ some model #'s for ya! thanks again!!

Got brave enough to pull everything out and start looking. After I removed the bottom tray to the freezer, my problem was evident. 1/2 inch of ice and as you figured the defrost drain was frozen shut. Cleaned everything out and it's doing great now. If this continues to happen, do you have any insight as to why the freeze occured in the first place?!? Thanks again!!

Just one of those things. Whirlpool have a kit to deal with this kind of issue, I've found it very successful:

Basically, a little probe to get some heat into the drain. Comes with instructions.
