Default Maytag MTB2448DRA puddling on floor thru fridge compartment

Ran hot water through defrost drain at rear of freezer. Some of it makes it all the way through the tube to the drip pan at bottom, but the evap cup on the ceiling of the refrigerator compartment also fills up and leaks water through the inside rear of the fridge.

I did not notice any ice buildup in the rear of the freezer at the defrost drain (though ice may be further down than I can see). I'm assuming some gunk may be partially blocking the water from getting out of the evap cup to the drain tube. I can't figure out how to get access to that area. There is a long plastic channel that runs across the center of the fridge ceiling from front to back. Does that entire thing have to come off, and is it something a homeowner can do?

I only have the user manual, not the service manual which would likely be much more helpful :-)

Thanks for any assistance,

Here is the Repair Manual for your side by side, it will show you all about the evaporator section and drain area.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. Is the Repair Manual the same as the Service Manual? Also, your link took me to a manual for a side-by-side, but my refirgerator is a top freezer. thanks again, Mike.

oops, sorry about that.

Yes the repair manual is the same as the service manual.

Here is the one for your top freezer refrigerator:
