Yes, it sounds like your evaporator fan motor is bad.

Whats the serial# of your refrigerator?

Success.

I yanked everything out, took the ice maker and back plate off, and checked the fan. I got a 120V on the fan supply, but the fan didn't register any continuity. I tried some bare wires from an outlet (both directions) and it didn't move. After the fun of getting that air funneller and fan bracket off, I again plugged it into some bare cable from an outlet, and to my surprise it spun up. It must have been jammed and removing the motor from the mount must have jarred something loose.

I took the opportunity to look down the slot to the fridge and I'm pretty sure the damper is stuck open. But that's another project. I'll be satisfied if things cool down and I see some ice in the ice maker tomorrow.

Thanks again.

Perhaps that was premature.

It again seems like the evap fan doesn't run. I just spun the timer a bit and cycled the fridge power. The compressor came on, but the fan isn't moving.

I guess I'll take it apart again tomorrow morning. My only thoughts on the cause:

1) Quirky fan motor
2) Detatchable center air venting cover too tight, maybe preventing fan from turning
or, 3) Fan freezes up when it gets cold. Anyone ever run into that?

MTB2156GEW Fridge

Wow, I didn't realize those rubber gromets were part of the spinning section. I think that could definitely be an issue. Horrible design if that's the case - I'll confirm tomorrow.

Yes, a new evaporator fan motor should fix it for you.

Whats your serial# on your refrigerator?
