Default Maytag DWU8530AAX Drain and clean issues

Have a Maytag DWU8530AAX dishwasher.

The two issues I have that I think are related are:

1 Poor or no draining when going through full cycle

2 Poor cleaning of dishes

I have checked drain hose into garbage disposal and hose is good, garbage disposal is also clear and good.

The drain issue is not consistant. Some times it will drain properly. The lack of good cleaning is consistant. The dishes do not get as clean as they did when the washer worked.

If the washer did not drain and I turn the timer to the drain mode it then drains. This would lead to believe that the timer is at fault but why would it drain when I go back and set it to the drain mode?

Before I go and buy a new timer which runs around $100 just to test my theory is there anything else I should be checking?

Thank you for any help.

With it not cleaning the dishes well, that makes me think something in the pump is bad, or clogged.

Here is a couple of links that may help:

Then here is the official Maytag Repair Manual:

Default Maytag DWU4910AAX

Hello from a newbie to this forum.

Thanks for the links Jake. I have the exact same problem as route62, but with a model DWU4910AAX.

This draining problem is not consistent, sometimes it works just fine. Other times, there is a varying amount of water in the bottom. I did have my countertops replaced and they did not re-attach the sink drain hose to the bottom of the cabinet as one tip on the link suggested. I will remount that and see if it helps. I noticed today that "someone" didn't use the garbage disposal last night so I turned it on. After that, I opened the dishwasher and there was water there, although I'm sure it wasn't there this morning. We have recently started using gel detergents which I have read that aren't that great, so maybe that's one reason for the poor cleaning. One thing I have noticed is that there is a slight noise when the drain cycle is in use. It's not a grinding noise, but not a squeal either. Something in between...Maybe it is the pump after all. I'm not sure how old the dishwasher is, we've lived in the house for 4 years and it was probably that old when we moved in. I'm thinking if I can't find a reasonably inexpensive fix, it's time to replace it anyway. What's the useful life of a dishwasher, anyway?

Thanks,

The life of any appliance now is about 7-15 years, depending on how many times its used a day/week/month.
