My Maytag top loader (model # LAT8705AAE) leaks during the final spin cycle. This washer is problably ~10 years old, but i'm not totally sure because it came with the house when I bought it.

I had the same problem about a year ago and I fixed it by cleaning up the tub gasket. However, it started leaking again a week ago so I cleaned up the gasket again and actually replaced the gasket. But it still leaks...

After I installed the gasket I discovered that some repair websites sell silicon sealant. Do I need to use silicon selaent when I replace the tub gasket?

The leaking is not too bad. If I buy a washer tray, can I just live with the leak? Could my washer short out and cuase a fire?

thanks

Hi,

**The leaking is not too bad. If I buy a washer tray, can I just live with the leak?**

Water and electrical parts = bad!!

**Could my washer short out and cuase a fire?**

Fire, probably not, electrical short, yes.

**My Maytag top loader (model # LAT8705AAE) leaks during the final spin cycle**

Open it up and leave the front panal off, baby sit a load or two and see if youcan ID where the water is comming from.

**Do I need to use silicon selaent when I replace the tub gasket?**

Not normally, but is the outer tub is a bit rusted on the edge, a little doesn't hurt.

jeff.
