Default Maytag MTB1502ARW - Magic Chef Clone

Hello,

I just received today from the realty company that manages my apartment building a Magic Chef CTB1502ARW after my 18 year old Hotpoint passed on . I did some research and found out that Maytag had an identical refrigerator, model MTB1502ARW.

The refrigerator just went through a defrost cycle about an hour ago and it is struggling to get the freezer freezing again. It made ice just fine earlier in the day. I put a freezer thermometer in it and the freezer was up to 60 degrees after defrost! Does it need another day or so to stabilize??

Does anybody know anything about this refrigerator? I found one review on it, and it was not very positive. Is this normal for a brand new refrigerator? I cannot find the manufacture date on the manufacturer's plate so I don't know exactly how old this fridge is, but it does look very brand new.

Thanks for any info
Jeff

Hi,

Much in the freezer? If empty the defrost cycle will spike high in temp, once the freezer is more like at least 1/2 full the temp spikes are very little during a defrost cycle.
The refrigerator will need 24 hours to get into it's normal on and off routine and to remove all of the heat from the steel/plastic/insulation inside.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the great info! My new fridge was made in May, 2006. Would never had figured it out without that link.

The Magic Chef is definitely stabilizing. Freezer is close to 0 now. Ice is frozen. Fresh food section doing fine.

Thanks for the help

Jeff
