Default MayTag MSD2756DEQ fridge not cold

Hello al,

I have a MSD2756DEQ that the fridge is not cold. The freezer is working but the evaporator freezes with ice blocking air circulation.

The internal fan works, the condenser is clean no dust. I do not know if it is the defrost timer, thermoswitch on evaporator coil, thermostat or some thing else.

Any info on checking voltage or manually setting the defrost timer to take voltage measurements.

I also do not have a schematic to show the parts location for troubleshooting this problem.

Any info as to how to trouble shoot will be greatly appreciated. I do know electronics/electrical and technical info will most welcome in locating exact part failure.

Thanks,

Girard

I just read the sticky .....

Great sticky....

I have .3 ohms on the thermal switch and 21 ohms on the heater element.

Question is, how do you trouble shoot to find out if the Auto Defrost ckt board is working?

If your defrost thermostat and heater are good, which sounds like they are, the only thing left is the defrost board.

Jake, I appreciate your help and continued support in thei forum...Thanks.

What should the thermo switch read at ambient temp ... open or close ?

How do you force the defrost circuit board to go to defrost cycle so as to measure the 115 VAC at the defrost element?

On this model is it click the fridge light switch 5 times to activate the defrost cycle?

There must be a sure way to save $$$ and pinpoint that it is the defrost ckt board.

If the defrost thermostat has continuity(closed) when its frosty, then its fine.

Here is a link to Jeff's site to tell you how to force it into defrost:

Jake,

Thanks for that tip ...

I forced the ckt board into defrost....had to cut the relay open on the ckt board and manually engaged it to the make contact. The strange thing is that it stayed engaged. I'm wondering if it just a bad relay and unable to electrically egage.

It could also be the pic IC that at fault but not sure.

Anyway, I plan to pick up a ckt bd as I don't have a relay to play around with.

Again, just trying to cut $$$. If it's just a relay less then $5.00 otherwise $60.00.

$60.00 sure beats $180.00 for the repair man plus service call.

Yes, the control board should fix it. Keep us posted.

This thread is great. I replaced the board today. However, now there is no power to the front door icemaker and water dispenser. Does the board control this? I can't find any leads disconnected. Might there be a fuse blown to the front door?

Was the original problem with the defrost issue? or the front dispenser?

There are 2 control boards in your refrigerator, the adaptive defrost control board, which I linked to above, then the front dispenser board.

Whats the serial# of your refrigerator? as they make 2 different ones for your model.

The original problem was not defrosting. The heater is fine, so we felt it was the board. Once I replaced the board, now there are no lights on the front dispenser.
