Maytag washer problem
I am looking at my Moms Maytag washer-Model A512. I just installed and adjusted two new belts on it due to the problem that it is having. The belts were worn out, but it did not fix the problem. When it fills and then gets to the wash cycle, the motor spins, but the belt slips due to the large pulley off of the gearbox not wanting to turn. If you set it to Spin, then the motor runs the opposite direction and all is fine. Is the gearbox bad? Is it time for a new washer? Thank You in advance. Doug

Yes the gearbox would be bad, but first check underneath the agitator, there could be something jammed under it.
If nothing is under the agitator, then it would be to costly to replace the gearbox, its better to invest into a new washer.
