We just took delivery of a new Maytag gas range and the two times we've used the oven the bottom of the food items on the lower rack burnt while items on the upper rack weren't completely cooked. The top rack is in 2nd highest position, the low rack in the lowest position with about 6" between the two racks.
The first mishap was cookies (what a waste of 18 chocolate chip/walnut cookies!),the second instance was biscuits. Both racks had the same type of cookie sheet, oven wasn't crowded, etc. We've looked for an adjustment in the lower part of the oven but we can only find a flame adjustment for the broiler unit located in the top of the oven. Being a newbie to blogs, I find this format interesting and spent some time looking at other posts. What a great way to solve problems and share expertise. Thanks for any suggestions/tips/help. Thank you, Jake. I also accessed the link you sent. It says if using more than one rack, remove the bottom rack 1-3 minutes before baking time ends. Why doesn't Maytag just install a better way to distribute the heat, like a blower. Well, it's a lesson learned and a bit of trivia I will pass along to anyone considering a purchase. Gee...my 32-year old Tappan range didn't require any extra 'work.'
Anyway...thanks for your quick reply, suggestion and link. |

They do have ovens that have blowers, they are convection ovens, they are about $100-$200 higher in price, but worth it.
![]() If you are within 30 days of your delivery, I would see if they would exchange your range for a convection oven range, if you would like to upgrade to it. Jake

I called the authorized service dealer listed for this area; today I received a call that they're no longer servicing this part of Texas.
Call me old-fashioned but I think when one purchases new "anything" it should work correctly. This is our second go-round as first-time Maytag consumers. The first range had damage to the side of the appliance yet the box it was crated in showed no damage. That means the merchandise had to be damaged before crating and wasn't noticed although it was a diagonal crease that ran from one side to the other. Currently, I'm waiting for Maytag to return my call. I'm going to look into your suggestion of a convection oven but believe this appliance should function correctly before it left the warehouse. It could be worse though. I've read other posts so maybe Maytag would consider mine a minor concern. Thanks again... Stymied |
