Unhappy Jenn-Air JCD2389DES stopped cooling

Hi everyone.

My fridge which is (I think) 5 years old... transported from san diego to Portland, oregon via u-haul stopped cooling. It has been working fine since we brought it up to Portland (over a month).

It has now stopped cooling. The lights are on, but there's no cooling on both sides... freezer and fridge. My fiance did hear a buzzing sound, kinda sounded like when you dispence ice, for a few minutes and then it went away.

Any ideas? We just moved up here and are very very broke. so a repairman would not be so good for us.

Thanks,

Nick

Default calling around repair guys

We've observed the fridge a little more last night and tonight. Here's the scoop.

It was blowing out cool air in the freezer last night. We turned it off overnight and plugged it back in this morning. It blew out cool air again but now (5 hours later) its blowing out warm air. Describing this to a repair guy, he thinks it could be a freon leak when we moved it and that the freon has slowly escaped.

Estimated cost to repair.. 250-300. Does that diagnosis sound correct? Other repair guys think it might be the defrost sensor or something else... It seems like every repair guy thinks its a different problem. who's right?

Is this something I can do myself? I'm not the most handy of guys, but i can follow instructions. Or should i just buy a new fridge?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi,

If you look inside your freezer and notice a frost built up on your back panel, then you have a auto-defrost problem as described here:
http://www.applianceaid.com/frig_notcold.html

If no frost build up, then its likely you have a bad compressor relay/overload or the sealed system/compressor is bad or has a leak in it as described here:
