Default Jennair fridge side not cold after defrost

    Hello,
    Appreciate this board!!!

We have a Jennair JCD2389DT side by side fridge. The fridge had been leaking on the floor. But a month ago we used a tip from this board and found the defrost drain had frozen over due to a small clog. Defrosted the coils and unclogged the drain and everything worked great! The fridge was very cold even set at medium. Appreciated!

Now however, the fridge side is warm (11DegC). We opened up the freezer and the coils were frosted over enough to clog the airflow. So we defrosted again. However, this time the fridge side is not cooling down like it did before.

Feeling the airflow into the fridge, it does not feel like much of a flow. I didn't try it before so I don't really know how strong it should be. When I open the freezer side, the flow might be slightly faster, but not by much. But as I shut the freezer door, I do feel a "puff" of air through the fridge flow vents. The is lots of air flow inside the freezer.

I stuck my hand as far into the freezer-fridge vents as I could but did not feel any ice. I did feel some sort of flap and was able to move it with my hand and then it would snap back into it's previous position.

Could the ADC be causing all of this? I would have expected the fridge to get cold after a defrosting if it was the ADC. Could it be something wrong with the flap mechanism between the freezer and fridge?

    Thanks for any help!!!
    Walter

Yes, it sounds like your ADC is bad because it should auto-defrost the freezer coils by itself.

Here is the thread about the ADC:

Thanks. Could there be something else wrong as well? How strong should the air flow be between the freezer section and the fridge?

The ADC is usually the main part that goes out on these side by sides.

The air flow should be fairly strong.

Crap... ADC replaced but airflow is still slow and the fridge side is still warm. Freezer side is blowing strong.

    What next?

Look behind your lower crisper's in the refrigerator section, you should see a little vent with a flapper on it, make sure that flapper is opened somewhat while the refrigerator is running.

Looks like I needed to defrost more. There was still ice behind the coils that I did not see initially. And I had not fully reassembled the freezer section... there was a piece of plastic that diverts air from the top of the freezer into the fridge that I was missing. Fridge temps have dropped to 3degC.

    Thanks for your help!!

PS It's quite the scam with these ADC units. Paid $90 CDN including taxes for something worth about $2 in parts. And they must have had 20 of these in stock waiting for other suckers with this fridge to come in.

Ok, glad you got all the ice from it, and its working good again.

Actually, Its not really a scam, the part breaks, so then you pay the money for the new part. If they sold the separate parts on the board itself, then you would have to solder them on, and hope and pray that something else on that board doesn't go bad. With the complete new board, you have a warranty and the chances of the new one breaking is about 0%.

They don't make parts like they used too!

I owned a new Dodge car in the 90's, and must of replaced 10 separate parts in 8 years on that. After it needed the 11th part, i got rid of it.
