Default Admiral HMG 64163 drain issue?

Hi, forum newbie here. Was trying to do google searches to find any repair information and diagrams for my Admiral HMG 64163 refrigerator but could not find much. Is the Admiral line now owned by Maytag? This unit was left by the previous of the house and works fine, except it always had a leak underneath it. Appears to be maybe 10 years old or so. From reading the forums, I believe it is a clogged drain issue. I tried shooting some warm water into the drain hole with a syringe, but the water does not drain. Tried sticking a chopstick down there but nothign really happened. Any other suggestions?

Yes

Hi,

Yes do this:
Clear the drain by forcing a solution of water and bleach or water and baking soda into it with a basting syringe. If the solution will not flow through, slide a length of ¼ inch flexible tubing into the drain tube to push the clog through to the drain pan. Remove the tubing after clearing the clog.

Thanks Jake, I'll try that when I get home tonight. How long is the drain tube, i.e. how long of a piece of flexible tubing should i buy assuming I have to go all the way into the drain?

Get about 15 feet, you may not need to stick it all in the drain, but its better to have to much than not enough.

Thanks Jake, Bought some 3/8" OD flexible tubing, shoved about 6' in to get all the way to the drain pan, and removed some gunk. Pretty straightforward, even for someone like me who knows nothing about appliance repair. Used the bleach solution to flush out the tube. Was wondering if it would be safe to even use a diluted Draino solution in the future?

I wouldn't use the Draino even diluted, could still be to strong for that refrigerator drain.

Glad you got it unclogged sfurukawa.

Jake,

Not sure if you familiar with the particular refrigerator in question, but I had two basic questions about it (It is very old, I think about 12 years):

1. Kickplate: This fridge was left by the previous owner and the kickplate was never properly installed. I'd like to re-install it, but it doesn't seem to attach very easily. I'm wondering it is has some pieces that have broken off of it b/c the edges are somewhat rough like something might have been there before. Do you know if it is a flush kickplate, or if there are pieces that stick out of it and connect into the base of the refrigerator?

2. Water filter: Can't seem to find where it's located!

Thanks much.

For the kickplate, you will need 2 clips that you will need to mount to the kickplate, but you will need a new kickplate and 2 screws as well.

Kickplate
Clip
Screw

Your model doesn't have an internal water filter, you will need to pull your refrigerator away from the wall, if you have one it will be back there.
