Yes, the refrigerator was totally defrosted. It sat unplugged for almost 2 days. The temp in the refrigerator side now is down to 45 degrees at 6:15am EST. The freezer is cold and the fan has stopped blowing on that side so I guess the freezer is at the correct temperature. Is there anyway else to make it get colder on the refrigerator side?

Jake, what is the purpose of the part on the refrigerator side in the upper back left hand corner. It is a small gold rectangular box about 4 inches in length with an arm and a coil spring. Could this have anthing to do with my refrigerator side not cooling down far enough? You can see it pretty good in these 2 pictures.

Yes, thats your auto damper control, its likely thats bad since its not cooling properly in the refrigerator section.

Here is a new one for your model:

Right now my refrigerator temperature is holding steady at 45 degrees. I have tried moving the temperature slide control all the way to the right to 9 and it doesn't seem to make any difference on the temperature.

Both the refrigerator and freezer settings are sitting at number 5 on the slide control. I can feel cold air coming through the vents on the diffuser. I don't know if I should mess with that auto damper control or not. I think this is about as cold as this refrigerator will go. It never has been an extremely cold refrigerator even in the beginning when I first bought it.

Ok, then that damper control might have been bad from day 1, because normal refrigerator temps. are between 36-40 degrees.

My other hunch is that I am not getting a true reading from the new thermometer that I have standing alone on the second shelf of my refrigerator.

I have found out that the only way to truely get the correct temperature measurement is to stick a mercury thermometer into a glass of water. This is right from Maytag's website. http://www.maytag.com/mths/cust_serv...seBVCookie=Yes

Everything seems to be plenty cold in my refrigerator so I am in the process of testing my temperature with a mercury thermometer in a glass of water.

I went out and purchased a mercury thermometer and placed it in a glass of water on the middle shelf of my refrigerator since that is what Maytag recommends. Just as I suspected the dial thermometer that I was using even though it was brand new was not giving me an accurate reading.

The mercury thermometer is giving me a reading of 38 degrees in the glass of water. I have my temperature slide control set to 7 for refrigerator coldness. When it was set to 5 and 6 the mercury thermometer was reading right at 40 degrees. The dial thermometer was reading around 44. When set to 7 the dial thermometer is reading 42 degrees. The discrepancy between the 2 thermometers is 4 degrees.

I think everything is fine with my refrigerator for now.

I'm having the same problems as inky but my thermometer in water is only getting down to about 42 deg F. I just replaced the ADC board but noticed that the damper control is only pushing the plastic damper open about hlaf way. Is this normal?
