Default Help with Maytag model MDBD850AWB

Hi all,

Looking for some help with a 4 year old maytag dishwasher, model MDBD850AWB. When starting the unit will fill with water, then it won't due anything else, just sit there. I check continuity on the motor, all had around 7 ohms so I am assuming the motor is good, including the overload protection. Do you have any suggestions on what I should check next? I have a basic wiring drawing, I was wondering how the motor wiring works, does the circuit board provide the neutral via the blue motor connector wire. I was going to try to just "bump" the motor to rule it out. I'm lost as to what to check next, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

On your Maytag, your warranty is still good on the motor and control board, I would advise you to use it, as these parts are very costly.

Page #11 here is your warranty 3rd-5th year:

You can contact Maytag to have a tech. come out.

Default Motor low current

Okay, I ran the function test and it is saying "motor-low current", I also put 120v directly to the motor and it won't spin, all it does is "hum". The service call is $70 plus $45 dollars and hour for labor, the new motor is $188. Should I just buy a new dishwasher? Their not even sure if they will honor the warranty?

Does this sound like the motor?

thanks

Yes, the motor is the problem.

Here is your motor you can order:

Is this something you wanted to do yourself?
If so, then having the repair manual in front of you will take you step by step with photos:

If this is something you would rather not tackle, then the only other option is a new dishwasher.

so I went down to the local appliance shop, they had my motor in stock, before I bought it, I check the ohm readings on the new motor and compared it to the old motor readings, they were identical. Both shafts turned with the same amount of resistance, so I don't think it is a bearing problem or anything. If the motor was bad wouldn't that be indicated as an open or high resistance readings? I don't know what the look for now, any ideas would be great?

thanks

Not necessary, I remember changing the motor I had with this same exact problem and it worked great, its more of a bearing issue on the motor causing this.

If you buy the motor from this link and it does not fix the problem, you can return it for a full refund. Its on a back-order though.

If you put 120 volts on the motor, it should turn.

Did you test the voltage at the motor while it was humming when its in the cycle?
