Default Maytag Dishwasher lights blink, won't cycle

Hi,

I have a Maytag MDB7160AWQ we bought in March of 2001. Two months ago the control panel started blinking. Originally there was a 2I error message on the LED, but now you can hear an audible click like it wants to start a wash cycle, then the LED flashes, you hear nothing and then it repeats this endlessly. I've tried the reset trick I've read about in other threads, and I've taken off the lower panel to look for the reset sheet, but it's not there. I had a 187 year old appliance repair guy out last week who hasn't called back, but told me I needed a new control panel and he would call with the price. Seven days, no call.

So I figured I would start investigating on my own. I've read the blog and tried what I've read, but no luck. How can I tell if this is a latch problem or do I trust the original "Maytag Repairman's" diagnosis of bad control panel.

Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

Jboz

Hi,

Yes, he is correct, you will need a new electronic control.

Here is the one for your model, this is the lowest priced one I found:

If you would like to repair it yourself, this repair manual will walk you through it:
